Good Friday Message by Pastor Shana Wise
Mark 14:51-52, A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.
The Two Gardens
The Tree of Life and The Tree and Good and Evil
Eden is a place that represents paradise (no sin). The garden was on the east side of the garden.
Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Once this happened, paradise was no longer a place where mankind could dwell with sin present.
We also find the announcement of restoration taking place in the garden of Eden as well.
Genesis 3:15, And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
In the garden of Gethsemane, we find “The Seed” manifested in the flesh, and his name is Jesus Christ.
Here we find Jesus in “the press”, of praying, being betrayed, and arrested. In a few hours, He was about to hang on the cross and die.
Yet what was interesting to me is the significance of the young boy fleeing naked from the garden right after Jesus was arrested.
His nakedness represented the restoration of Eden's access to mankind.
Genesis 2:25, And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Once sin entered their naked and unashamed disposition in the presence of God became hidden by the tarnish of the fall.
Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
Genesis 3:21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
The coverings that God made from animal skin in Genesis 3:21 were only a temporary fix for the fall of man. Here we find Jesus; the Seed, the Tree of Life, the final sacrifice, about to destroy the power of sin over our lives for once and for all!
The Garden of Gethsemane was the road back to Eden because Jesus’ presence in the form of flesh was there. Jesus was present in Eden, in Spirit form (Tree of Life). God never told Adam and Eve they couldn’t eat from this tree.
God still wants us to partake of his son's sacrifice, that is why we take communion, spiritually and physically.
It was always God’s design for mankind to dwell in His presence naked and unashamed. God loves us so much that he sent his Son Jesus Christ to restore us back in the right relationship with him. Thank you, Jesus, for dying and resurrecting for us! We love you.
